Hybtonite® Story

BIORESINS, NANO RESINS, NANO EPOXY RESINS, PREPREG. Scientists of the Nanoscience Centre at the University of Jyväskylä have been studying the Carbon Nano Tubes (CNT) and their effects to resins since 2002. The graphitic nature of the nanotubes, together with their geometry, gives them phenomenal properties. The question was how to transfer these properties into usable products, such as resins.

In 2004 professor Jorma Virtanen and nanoscientist Pasi Keinänen developed a process how to bond Carbon Nano Tubes (CNT) with resins utilizing extremely effective covalent bond. The method was immediately patented.

In 2005 Hybtonite® nano resin was born and won the “business idea competition” by Jyväskylä Science Park with a product named Carbon Nano Tube composite. In September 2006 Amroy Europe Oy was established to commercialise the Hybtonite® nano resin.

Montreal Sports Oy, an ice hockey stick manufacturer in Finland,. had developed a new winding RTM method to make stronger shafts. The problem was that the the composite shafts broke too easily due to the poor impact resistance.

In June 2005 Montreal Sports Oy and Pasi Keinänen at Nano Science Center signed a product development contract to find a strong enough nano resin for the ice hockey sticks.

In September 2005 the right percentage of nano tubes in epoxy resin was clear. The first test sticks were produced in December 2005 – January 2006. The production process was launched in April 2006.

Montreal Sports Oy became the first consumer of Hybtonite. In January 2006 Montreal Hybtonite® hockey stick ”Nitro” was voted number one Nano product in the world, at the world’s biggest Nanotechnology trade show in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2006 Amroy Europe Oy and Hybtonite® nano resin won the price “Best investment target” at Nanotechnology Northern Europe Forum.

DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) in England selected Amroy Europe Oy as a partner to it's Global partnership program.

During 2007 approximately 100 customers tested Hybtonite® in their own processes and several leading companies (for example Easton, Peltonen and Baltic Yachts) choosed Hybtonite® as the material for their most advanced products.

The first international presentation of Hybtonite® took place April 1-3, 2008 at JEC Composites in Paris. During this show several Prepreg manufacturers, resin formulators, resin manufacturers and distributors started the cooperation with Amroy Europe.

During 2008 the conducted tests proved Hybtonite’s® superiority. Chemically bonded Hybtonite is the leading materials of the next generation of nanotechnology.
