Green Energy for a Sustainable Environment

Green energy refers to the power which is produced in a natural, advanced sustainable way. It is the electricity that is derived from renewable energy sources and has insignificant effects on greenhouse emissions. Globally, people use green energy for various reasons.

Types of Renewable Resources

These are unlimited energy resources which produce green energy. Renewable resources are sources that can be used again and again to produce energy without depletion.

Some people also know them as alternative sources of energy. They include; wind, solar, biomass, geothermal and hydro-power.

Solar

This is an energy source which takes advantage of natural airflow and sunlight. It is a significant energy source, since, in remote areas where electricity is scarce, solar radiation is plentiful; hence, its utilisation produces electricity in these remote areas.

This is basically done through the solar thermal electricity device which is in the solar collector, and it makes use of solar radiation, thus generating electricity. Solar energy can be harnessed in three ways; through solar thermal power, solar photovoltaic system and through the solar thermal application.

Wind

This is a source of energy where wind turbines take the kinetic energy which is stored. The wind turbines convert wind motion to rotational energy, which is used to drive generators, by capturing the wind power through the aerodynamically designed blades, before converting it to revolving mechanical power using the airfoils.

The wind is a viable renewable source of energy, especially in remote, hilly and inaccessible areas.

Geothermal Resources

This is energy from the heat which is stored below the earth’s surface. Most of the geothermal sources are found along tectonic boundaries in volcanoes, where heat is produced by the magma underneath.

Fumaroles can be made to bring up new and economical energy. Hot springs bring hot water from the underground to the surface, then the water is pumped to the turbines; hence, electricity is produced.

Biomass

It is a source of green energy where energy is produced through anaerobic digestion. It is one of the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly sources of energy.

Bio-energy puts in to use a large amount of manure produced from homesteads and animal ranches, hence preventing pollution from them. It is a combination of gasses which are composed of biogas to produce electricity which can be used for lighting and cooking.

Hydro-Electric Resources

This is electrical energy generated using water flow in a turbine. It relies on fast-moving water from various sinks or waterfalls, where water flows from a high point, hence converting it to electricity. This is done using the spinning of the generator turbine blades.

Tidal and Wave Energy

This is the energy harnessed from the tides and waves in the sea or ocean. Since waves rely on the moon`s gravity, it makes it an uneconomical way of harnessing electricity. This energy is expensive to produce due to the processes involved.

Renewable resources are the best to use for green energy production since the energy produced is sustainable to the environment. Through the development of renewable energy systems, and technical know how it is possible to solve the crucial problems affecting the world, such as the sustainable growth of remote areas, water, and local energy supply, reliable supply of energy and organic fuels, and provision of employment and improving the living standard of the people, especially in developing countries.
